KIMBERLY A. MARKS, RID, ASID, IIDA
Ms. Marks has been principal and
owner of The Marks Design Group,
Inc., a Commercial Interior Design
firm providing Commercial Interiors
and Architecture since 1985. As a
stable force in San Antonio through
both good and bad economies, her firm has designed major commercial
interiors projects in the diversified
areas of Healthcare, Education, Government,
Commercial Real Estate, Retail, Hospitality,
Banking and Law. Notable Projects
have been the
150,000 square foot Tesoro Petroleum
Headquarters, Broadway Bank's main
branch and satellite branches, the
200,000 square foot downtown office
of the GSA Defense Finance & Accounting
Service, and building renovations
for some of San Antonio's most notorious
buildings; The Pyramid, The Titan Building, and 8401 Datapoint.
In 2002 The Marks Design Group
moved into their own office building
that Ms. Marks developed, which includes the "Common
Ground Small Group Conference Center" and
Pavilion on an acre of land in the
heart of Alamo Heights.
Ms. Marks has served her profession and community at many levels of leadership on varied Boards, Professional Organizations and Agencies.
She currently serves as President of the National Coucil for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), which is the non profit organization that develops and administers the Interior Design Qualifiation Exam across North America.
As a nationally recognized speaker, she has participated in panel discussions and speaking engagements across the US, such as the ASID National Convention, ASID SuperCampus, Neocon Chicago, Neocon West-LA, Neocon South-Atlanta, design.y.c., NYC, Baylor University, St. Mary's University, and the University of the Incarnate Word. Ms. Marks has developed an expertise in Building Codes through her volunteer involvement in the development of the International Building Codes. This effort has led her to deliver Building Code workshops that emphasize codes specific to the interior designer's role in the design team. To date, all workshops and seminars have been given gratuitously to advance the profession through improving the education of its constituents.
Prior to forming The Marks Design Group, Ms. Marks was an interior designer and facilities manager for the Hospital Corporation of America. With HCA she was involved in the design of over 50 medical related facilities as well as HCA's corporate offices throughout the United States.
Prior to that time she worked for Morris Aubry Architects in Houston and Nashville where her concentration was in interior architectural production, design, and project management.
Ms. Marks was born in Boston. While
primarily raised and
schooled there with her parents
and three sisters, she also lived
in Japan, Canada and Florida. She enjoys
